International Conference on Computer Vision

January 4-7, 1998

The International Conference on Computer Vision will be held in at Homi Bhabha Auditorium (TIFR) (Bombay), India, from January 4 -7 1998.

General Information

Bombay is located in Maharashtra state, and is the business capital and economic powerhouse of India. It is the fastest moving, most affluent and most industrialised city in India. Bombay's very cosmopolitan population is estimated to be around 10 million. The main local languages spoken in the city are Hindi, Gujarathi and Marathi (we did say the city is cosmopolitan!) but you can easily get by with English. Bombay is also the home of the Hindi film industry, which is the largest in the world.

There are several tourist attractions in and around Bombay : ancient cave paintings, sculptures, quaint hill-stations and more. See also the planned tours mentioned elsewhere.

Bombay is very well connected by air, and numerous international airlines provide connections to her.

The time zone in India, Indian Standard Time, is 5 hrs 30 min ahead of UTC (GMT), which makes it 9:30 ahead of EDT in the U.S.A (and 10:30 ahead of EST when the conference will be held). The climate in Bombay in January is cool and pleasant with an average temperature of about 25 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Fahrenheit) in the day and about 16 degrees Celsius (61 degrees Fahrenheit) in the night.

Currently, 35 Indian rupees is about one U.S. dollar.
