Keynote I: Integration of Web Services and Software Agents for Industrial Application
Weiming Shen

Abstract
Web services are featured with application, platform and provider independence. The Web services technology has had quick evolution and broad acceptance during the past seven years, and has been widely applied in developing industrial applications, particularly Web-based e-business applications. Software agents are characterized with key features including autonomy, cooperation, and proactiveness. They have been extensively studied for almost two decades. They are evolving slowly (compared with Web services), and are adopted progressively by the industry. Since each of these two technologies has its own advantages and disadvantages, integrating them by taking their advantages and avoiding their shortcomings has been an active research topic since the Web services technology emerged. This talk presents our first-hand R&D experience on the integration of service-oriented computing (Web services in particular) and software agent technologies with applications to e-engineering, collaborative design, multidisciplinary design optimization, distributed manufacturing, and enterprise collaboration. We will also discuss future trends, R&D opportunities and challenges in this area.

Biography
Dr. Weiming Shen is a Senior Research Scientist at the National Research Council Canada. He is an Adjunct Full Professor at the University of Waterloo and an Adjunct Research Professor at the University of Western Ontario. He received his Bachelor (1983) and Master’s (1986) degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Northern Jiaotong University, China and his PhD degree (1996) in Computer Engineering from the University of Technology of Compiègne, France. He has been working on intelligent agents and applications to collaborative engineering design, intelligent manufacturing, and virtual enterprises for about 16 years. He has published two books and 250+ papers in scientific journals and international conferences/workshops, and co-edited 20 books or conference/workshop proceedings in the related areas. His book titled “Multi-Agent Systems for Concurrent Intelligent Design and Manufacturing” was based on his many years first-hand experience. It was the first and is still the only book in the world systematically describing the agent technology for engineering design and manufacturing. After the publication of this book, he has been invited to provide 40+ invited lectures/seminars at different academic and research institutions over the world and keynote presentations/tutorials at various international conferences. He is an Associate Editor or Editorial Board Member of seven international journals and served as guest editor for seven other international journals. He has been Program Committee Co-Chair of the CSCWD conferences since 2001 and served as Chair/Co-Chair or Program Committee member for 70+ international conferences/workshops during the past 8 years. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and a member of ASME, ACM, and AAAI. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Ontario.

Keynote II: The Greening of Innovation
Jurij Paraszczak and Jen-Yao Chung

Abstract
As the world's resources such as water energy and food become more constrained, the importance of IT to help in the efficient use of these resources is increasing. This talk will focus on the methods and approaches that IBM is taking to manage power in data centers, to minimize the carbon footprint of a supply chain, to manage water supplies and other resources through the use of improved hardware and software technologies.

Biography
Jurij Paraszczak is currently director of IBM Research Industry Solutions and Relationship Manager to the Venture Capital group. In this role Jurij works to integrate IBM Research technologies with that of VC's portfolio companies, ISVs and partners to create end to end solutions. In addition by focusing these solutions on specific industries and integrating technologies from around the world, especially from emerging geographies, the Research team builds a strong ecosystem which helps create opportunity for the partnership of portfolio companies, VCs, ISVs and IBM and provides business and technology insight from around the world. Jurij has over 55 publications in various areas of telecommunications, technology and systems and over 16 patents in a wide variety of fields including communications, plasma chemistry, microlithography, materials manipulation and chip fabrication, packaging systems, media delivery and characterisation, Jurij has a broad experience to draw on to help span a wide variety of disciplines and to synthesise new approaches to old problems. Jurij obtained his BSc and PhD degrees from the University of Sheffield in England and worked in a postdoctoral position at the University of Wisconsin Madison identifying the nature of gamma radiation induced trapped electrons in hydrocarbons before joining IBM.

Jen-Yao Chung received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is the senior manager for Industry Technology and Solutions, IBM T. J. Watson Research Center, responsible for identifying and creating emerging solutions with focus on "Green Computing and Business". Before that, he was Chief Technology Officer for IBM Global Electronics Industry. Before that, he was senior manager of the electronic commerce and supply chain department, and program director for the IBM Institute for Advanced Commerce Technology office. Dr. Chung is co-Editor in Chief of the International Journal of Service Oriented Computing and Applications (published by Springer). Dr. Chung is the co-founder and co-chair of the IEEE technical committee on Electronic Commerce. He has served as general chairs and program chairs for many international conferences. He has authored or co-authored over 160 technical papers in published journals or conference proceedings. He is a Fellow of IEEE and a Distinguished Engineer of ACM.

Keynote III: Breaking the Privacy Barrier
Yunhao Liu

Abstract
Pervasive computing has rapidly evolved due to the advances in computing devices and communication technologies. Pervasive computing plays an important role in today’s E-business. One of the essential objectives of pervasive computing is to enable universal deployment of smart devices, seamless services, and uninterruptible access to the information and resources. The privacy issue, however, erects security barriers to the prevalence of pervasive applications. The capacity-limited pervasive devices are difficult to adopt complicated cryptography to protect users' private information. The open and non-persistent feature of pervasive communications also facilitates adversaries to compromise the user privacy. In this discussion, we will focus on pervasive privacy issue in the context of (a) Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems, (b) mutual anonymous Peer-to-Peer, and (c) wireless sensor network wormholes.
